Shopping.com Tip: A flash memory MP3 player has an internal silicon chip that stores bits as zeros and ones in what is basically a CMOS capacitor. These are very small chips, so flash-based MP3 players can be quite compact. Flash memory has no moving parts, so a flash memory MP3 player is a good bet if you want a shockproof system.
The most common flash-based systems are 1 GB MP3 players - however, they can go up to 8MB. They also consume less power than hard drive-based systems.
The hard drive-based systems now can store up to 80MB of video, songs and data and include the same type memory drive as found in your home PC. Hard drive or HDD systems are sensitive to shock as they do have moving parts, and do consume more power. If you want lots of storage, this is the way to go.
